Welcome to The Advanced Diploma in Cosmetic Science! This course is our most resourceful and invested curriculum! It is ideal for you if you have a brand or intend to be a cosmetic manufacturer. While it is a significant leap from the Diploma in Cosmetic Science, taking that course set the necessary foundation for this course. The Advanced Diploma in Cosmetic Science is a beautiful fusion of several fields such as formulation science, consumer marketing, biology, chemistry, accounting, law, pharmacology, and physics, etc. No need to be concerned, this has been conceptualized for the cosmetic industry, so we will not be speaking over your head!
The Advanced Diploma in Cosmetic Science and Skin Lightening covers four (4) very important aspects, namely
- Consumer Science: This refers to what consumers want and expect from products and how you as a cosmetic formulator are to design products that match the needs, wants and desires of consumers. This is so important because it is integral to market success.
- Human Biology: This has to do with how the skin and the hair function. This is very important because that’s where products are applied! You need to know how the skin and hair function to understand how they could react to different materials or/and products. We will be covering special skincare and hair care concerns such as skin brightening and lightening, anti-ageing, anti-acne, men and baby care, as well as ethnic hair concerns etc. You’ll be getting an in-depth/comprehensive tutorial on these conditions! You need this information if you are to make the right ingredient selections and build formulations that are safe and efficacious.
- Product Science: This is all about the science of product formulation. If you want to build and manufacture products that are safe, stable, and efficacious, you need to understand the science behind raw materials, chemical reactions, and how to select and combine different categories of ingredients, so that your products do what they say they will do and are safe for use and stable for as long as they need to be on the shelf. We also deal with stability testing and teach you how to judge which stability tests are necessary, which can be done in-house, which needs to be outsourced and the absolute minimum required for each formulation type when you’re on a budget! There are more than 45 cosmetic product forms you’ll learn how to formulate!
- Regulatory Guidelines and Requirements: Depending on your jurisdiction, there are guidelines and requirements that legislative governments require from a brand. They are all about protecting the rights and safety of consumers, and the safety of the environment, as well as ensuring a healthy playing field in the marketplace. You need to understand your responsibilities as a brand owner or manager and how to stay within legislative requirements. We’ll teach you how to access and research the most important databases in the industry.
Let’s not forget technical lab skills! Yes, there is more to it. Also, as a course bonus, we will be teaching you a little accounting – How to price your product right, what other factors you need to allocate to your costs, such as research and development (R&D), packaging and production costs, etc.
This course does require time investment – these are workplace skills you cannot do without! As always, we are here to help you if you ever get stuck!
